Chandrakant, originally from the picturesque beach town of Alibaug, Maharashtra, moved to bustling Mumbai in the early 1980s. His primary focus was building a career at Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers, but destiny had other plans. In 1985, despite his initial reluctance, Chandrakant found himself visiting a potential bride during the Diwali festival. It was then that he first saw Surekha, who, dressed in a blue saree with long dark hair, captivated him instantly. For Chandrakant, it was love at first sight. Surekha, however, needed more convincing. After Chandrakant laid bare his life story to her family, they finally allowed the couple to court, leading to a marriage that has flourished for 35 years.
A Lifetime of Love and Exploration
Throughout their marriage, Surekha and Chandrakant have shared a love for travel, exploring both India and the world. Their journeys took them from Australia to the Andaman Islands and beyond. Even when they weren’t traveling, they found joy in simply being together. Their deep connection meant that even short separations were difficult, with Surekha rarely spending nights away from Chandrakant.
Their son’s graduation from NYU was another proud moment for them, where they embraced the role of surrogate parents to other Indian students whose families couldn’t attend the ceremony. This experience deepened their sense of responsibility and joy as parents.
Embracing Retirement with GetSetUp
After retiring during the pandemic, Surekha and Chandrakant found new ways to enrich their daily lives through GetSetUp.
