For many educators, remote teaching presented a new set of challenges, especially when it came to adapting various ed-tech tools to their specific classroom needs. While any teacher can watch a YouTube video to learn Google Classroom, using it effectively to teach second graders is another story. For example, do you know how to use Zoom to record classes and then share them securely with your students?

The shift to online teaching left many teachers with unanswered questions about how to manage their classrooms effectively in a digital environment. Despite school districts' efforts to address emergency needs, teachers still needed additional support as they balanced learning new technologies, teaching, and caring for their families.

How GetSetUp Stepped In

GetSetUp was uniquely positioned to help. We were already offering remote live training on online tools and apps tailored to the 50+ demographic. When the pandemic struck, we had a strong team of retired educator "Guides" ready to help onboard customers to complex tools like CRMs, Slack, Google Docs, and Zoom. So when we invited our Guides to assist current educators, the response was overwhelming.

Through a partnership with The Learning Accelerator, GetSetUp established an educator-to-educator live training program. Teachers could join one of our 10 daily interactive sessions to learn the necessary tools for planning, connecting, and instructing students in an online environment.

Addressing Common Questions

In our 1-on-1 and group classes, we gathered various questions and use cases that educators had. Here are some of the most common:

  • Google Classroom: "How to provide ongoing feedback for students during asynchronous class assignments." "Setting up Google Classroom."
  • Zoom: "How to set up a Zoom classroom and lock it for my students' safety." "Best practices for using Zoom for education."
  • YouTube: "I want to learn to be efficient in recording and uploading videos." "How to teach a lesson using YouTube and posting for others to see."
  • Screencasting: "How to use screencasting for making videos for YouTube and Google Docs." "How to add voice-overs to slides."
  • Google Docs and Slides: "Working with slides. Difference between slides and PowerPoint." "How to create/manage a shared Google Doc during a Zoom call."
  • Google Hangouts Meet: "How to live stream a meeting to YouTube." "How to effectively set up Google Hangout Hours to meet with students and parents."
