A Journey from Payroll to Pilates

“The older you get, the more you have to tell,” says GetSetUp Guide Natalie Wieneroider, who is based in Melbourne, Australia. Over her lifetime, Natalie has held “5 million” different jobs, including managing payroll and working as a tour guide in Europe and Australia. Her passion for movement began 20 years ago on a trip to India, where she discovered yoga. This was the start of her journey as a movement teacher, which has continued ever since. Natalie went on to become certified as a Yoga, Pilates, and Restorative Exercise teacher, and now leads several movement classes for older adults on GetSetUp.

“I’m a why person. I need to know why this happens. I could have gotten a PhD with the money I have spent on workshops and training since I always need to know more,” she shares.

Teaching Movement and Wellness

Natalie’s curiosity and dedication paid off, as she has spent the last 20 years sharing her love of movement, health, and wellness in the fitness industry. She has worked in gyms where the average age was 53+, and she thoroughly enjoys helping others stay healthy as they age.

When Natalie discovered GetSetUp, she was thrilled to find they were looking for someone to teach fitness online. “I was like, oh my goodness! They want someone my age (which is not all that common in the fitness world). I was so excited since I was used to teaching online, so this was a perfect fit.”

Now, Natalie teaches seven different classes for GetSetUp, including the 'Core & Stretch Movement Class'. These classes combine movement principles from yoga, Pilates, and restorative exercise. The focus is on the core, which supports balance and stabilizes movements, especially in unexpected situations like stepping on a slippery surface.

Supporting Balance and Flexibility

The core is essential for maintaining balance and preventing falls. Natalie’s classes emphasize using the abs reflexively, allowing them to activate and move in all directions to support and keep the body upright. As she guides learners through exercises, they also experience ways of stretching different body parts, enhancing flexibility and mobility.

Each week, Natalie plans classes that often introduce new movements, keeping learners engaged and challenged as they work toward better health and well-being.
