When Patricia first discovered GetSetUp through her SilverSneakers membership, she was immediately drawn to its wide variety of offerings.
“I first went to my health plan site, and I was interested in GetSetUp’s alternative classes from fitness alone,” she explained.
While most people associate SilverSneakers with exercise classes, Patricia was excited that GetSetUp offers so much more.
“GetSetUp is a nice alternative to SilverSneakers, which most people think of just for exercise, but GetSetUp offers lots of other topics as well.”
As someone who enjoys creative outlets, Patricia found herself particularly captivated by the art and music classes.
“I was first attracted to the art classes,” she shared. “I found the classes very relaxing, and I liked the idea of sharing the creative experience with other people. The classes are relaxing and fun. Just having fun is a great benefit.”
Patricia, who is retired from two jobs, working for the city and as a receptionist at a senior center, now finds joy in creative expression through these classes.
Her favorite classes include the drawing sessions with Guide Deana and Guide Pam and music classes led by Guide Mike.
“The drawing classes are wonderful, and my second favorite type of classes are the music with Guide Mike,” she said.
Socializing Through Learning
Patricia also appreciates the interactive aspect of GetSetUp, enjoying the opportunity to engage with others.
“I enjoy the chats before class,” she added, noting how she has learned the value of joining early to participate fully in the face-to-face sessions on Zoom.
Patricia has also discovered new skills, including how to combine words and paintings, which she found particularly unique.
“I learned the skill of how to use words and make them into paintings,” she said. “That was a unique idea, and I’m looking forward to exploring it more.”
Beyond the arts, Patricia finds value in GetSetUp’s wellness offerings, such as yoga classes, which have positively impacted her well-being.
“The variety of GetSetUp classes set it apart from other platforms. There is so much to choose from, and also being able to participate in classes from the convenience of my home is nice,” she shared.
Thanks to the flexibility of the platform, Patricia has been able to fit these classes into her schedule over the past few months, and she’s noticed an improvement in her overall health.
Patricia accesses the classes mostly on her iPhone, finding it more convenient than the computer.
“I use my iPhone, and sometimes the computer, but I like the phone—it’s a little more convenient,” she explained.
As a lover of the arts, Patricia hopes to see even more creative classes in the future, particularly poetry.
“I would like to see more classes on poetry and writing poems,” she suggested.
Thanks to her Aetna health plan, Patricia has found a new avenue for creativity, connection, and wellness through GetSetUp.
“I’ve been taking the classes for almost a year,” she said. “My well-being has improved some, and I’m really pleased with these classes.”
